European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR)

At the conclusion of the opening session for the symposium in November 2025, a central question emerged: what might justice look like? To continue this critical inquiry, this event, organised in partnership with the ECCHR, invites artists and audiences to reflect on how photographs not only depict potential realities but also actively shape perceptions of power, history, and human value. A talk organised in collaboration with the ECCHR will further examine who can create impactful images with what kind of legitimacy and how justice operates within visual and political contexts. It will also consider how audiences respond to images that claim space and justice for marginalised groups, whether justice can be encapsulated in a single frame, or whether it is something that is continually negotiated – and shaped by the image-maker’s agency and urgency.

The ECCHR is dedicated to enforcing political, social, and economic human rights and litigates cases with collectives all over the world. Founded in 2007 by Wolfgang Kaleck and other international human rights lawyers, it uses legal means to initiate legal and political interventions.

The ECCHR also sees collaboration with artists as an important opportunity to speak to broader audiences, raise awareness of injustice, and inspire shifts in perspective.

Freundeskreis des Hauses der Photographie

Experience, celebrate, and support photography at the Triennial with friends
The 9th Triennial has partnered with the Freundeskreis des Hauses der Photographie e.V to further enrich the event with artist talks, guided tours, and excursions for all photography enthusiasts in Hamburg. All year round, the Freundeskreis is actively involved in organising events and supporting the exhibitions at the House of Photography, which – like the Triennial – was founded on the initiative of the association’s founder, F.C. Gundlach.

The Freundeskreis places particular emphasis on supporting young photographers: on June 6, around 40 emerging talents from the international photography scene will present their work as part of Portfolio Day. Triennial visitors are invited to discover new photographic positions during the Portfolio Walk. On June 7, the Freundeskreis will host a bike tour to the exhibition venues of the Triennial Expanded programme.

better together x Triennale-Special
Friends of the House of Photography enjoy benefits such as exclusive exhibition previews and free entry to exhibitions at PHOXXI and the House of Photography. When two people register for one of the Freundeskreis’s Triennial events together, they will be given the opportunity to sign up for a better together membership, which allows two people to join the Freundeskreis for the price of one.

From June 2 – 7, 2026, the Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg presents a selection of short films for the 42nd time. This year’s motto: “Listening”. Through film programmes, exhibitions and talks, the festival invites audiences to listen – at its festival centre Post and six additional venues across the city.

Shortfilm Program On Waiting
Waiting is not the same as pausing. It is a power strategy. It disciplines bodies and regulates mobility. In airports, administrative buildings, at the edges of the city, and in digitally mediated spaces, time is organised as a state of uncertainty. The images and documents in the short film programme On Waiting engage with the regime of waiting in different ways — transforming the cinema into a place where this uncertainty becomes visible, is questioned, and is temporarily re-set.

Curated by Yazid Anani
Yazid Anani is the lead curator of the Hayy Jameel arts centre and creative hub in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. From 2016 to 2024, he served as chief curator and programme director at the A M Qattan Foundation in Ramallah. In his curatorial practice, he moves between architectural discourse, visual culture, and social research.

With films by Mustafa Abu Ali, Razan AlSalah, Ali Asgari & Farnoosh Samadi, Søren Lind & Larissa Sansour, Nima Nassaj, Claudia Rankine, Mario Rizzi, Subash Thebe & Wolff Architects.

Stadtkuratorin Hamburg

The City Curator of Hamburg is responding to the Triennial’s conceptual themes of Alliance, Infinity, and Love in the form of three events:

Alliance: An artist talk with Luchezar Boyadjiev about his photo collection of equestrian statues from around the world in which he “removes” male rulers from their horses.

Infinity: Two tours of Aby Warburg’s Image Collection of the History of Astrology and Astronomy at the Hamburg Planetarium explore humanity’s ongoing efforts to read the stars to understand our place on Earth.

Love: A visit to the Cecilia Vicuña’s plane- tary-inspired mural being shown as part of the exhibition FIRE: From the Cosmos to the Commons at St. Nikolai Memorial, a work that grapples with modern-day apocalypses and explores visions of common futures.

The first-ever Tanztriennale, taking place in Hamburg from 14 to 21 June 2026, is a celebration of dance in all its forms: be that on stage, in public space, in conversation, or in daily life. This first edition explores dance’s potential – as an art form, as a social force, as a catalyst for new thinking. Across cultures, communities, and generations, the Tanztriennale invites dance professionals and the general public to come together to watch, participate, reflect, discuss, and dance!

The Tanztriennale is an initiative of the Kulturstiftung des Bundes. It is being produced by Tanztriennale Hamburg e.V. and is funded as a cultural beacon by the Federal Cultural Foundation and the Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg, Behörde für Kultur und Medien.
