Publications

In correspondence with the plurality of visual and artistic proposals in the programme, in June 2026 the 9th Triennial issued eleven separate publications, each one accompanying one of the exhibitions. All of these publications have the same size and share a common focus on images and visuality, but, in keeping with the variety of the exhibitions, they have different traits: specific formats, a varying number of pages, a different treatment of images and text…

Each one of these publications can be purchased individually at the corresponding institution. In addition, the Triennial of Photography Hamburg has also made available the entire set – that is, a "schuber" containing the eleven publications, plus a booklet of texts featuring three essays which illustrate the theoretical frame of the 9th Triennial, which were already issued the November 2025 publication.

This set, co-published by the Triennial of Photography Hamburg and adocs Verlag, is on sale at Deichtorhallen (in the bookshop of the Hall for Contemporary Art and online), at adocs.com, and in art bookshops throughout Germany.

The publication plan of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026 aims to represent and document the richness and variety of its exhibition programme, while reflecting the diversity of the shows that shape the event. Conceived as companions to each of the eleven exhibitions across the eight participating art institutions, the publications are intended to be affordable and accessible to a broad public. Emphasizing visual content, they serve not only as records of the exhibitions but also as spaces for reflection, connecting artists, curators and audiences within the broader curatorial framework.

First Publication, November 2025

The first publication, entitled Alliance, Infinity, Love – in the Face of the Other, was released in November 2025 on the occasion of the International Symposium held in Hamburg under the same title. It includes numerous reproductions of works by artists featured in the 9th Triennial, as well as three essays: Mark Sealy outlines the curatorial vision; Aruna D’Souza examines the idea of empathy as a basis for acts of solidarity; and Wolfgang Kaleck reflects on the relationship between photography and human rights, both historically and in the present. The publication also offers a preview of the festival programme.
