"On Waiting 1" Short Film Programme
Waiting is not the same as pausing. It is a power strategy. It disciplines bodies and regulates mobility. In airports, administrative buildings, at the edges of the city, and in digitally mediated spaces, time is organised as a state of uncertainty. The images and documents in the short film programme On Waiting engage with the regime of waiting in different ways — transforming the cinema into a place where this uncertainty becomes visible, is questioned, and is temporarily re-set.
On Waiting 1 engages with waiting for an end. The films move through contexts of occupation, displacement, and migration, where time is stretched and the horizon continually deferred. Images become acts of persistence, resisting the silent normalization of delay.
With films by, among others, Razan AlSalah, Mustafa Abu Ali, and Nima Nassaj.
