Sonic Bodies: dispari
During the Opening Days, the Sonic Bodies event series invites key figures from Hamburg’s cultural and music scene to the festival centre of the 9th Triennial to explore the themes of Alliance, Infinity and Love through performance, music and discussion with the audience. The series sees itself as an open space of resonance between art, sound and urban society – as a place of encounter, listening and collective experience.
Musical improvisation, sonic exploration, collective listening: dispari gathers local and international musicians to play together for the first time in open improv sessions, accompanied by DJ sets for listening. The event is an invitation to linger, to share space together, to commune with music and with each other.
dispari is a label and platform for auditory publications and performances held across a variety of locations such as Kunsthalle Münster, Kunstverein Munich or Meakusma Festival initiated and run Nguyen Phuong-Dan.
Participating artists:
Loose group Cloud Management – based somewhere between Hamburg and Malaga – that tirelessly expands its sound and musical style, from leftfield neo-kraut to grainy dub sketches.
French-Vietnamese sound artist, composer and multi instrumentalist Margaux Gazur, who explores her memories and surroundings with sounds, using acoustic instruments, objects and field recordings to create organic and textured compositions.
Sophia Leitenmayer, whose work operates at the intersection of sound, performance, objects and video – collective and interdisciplinary approaches are an integral part of their practice.
Vietnamese multimedia composer, improviser, and performer Tam Thi Pham. Central to her work are discovering the unique sounds and extended techniques of the dan bau, a traditional Vietnamese instrument incorporated into her compositions and improvisations.
Phuong-Dan who fluidly moves between roles as curator, cultural organizer, label owner and DJ. His sets are hypnotic blends of rhythm and atmosphere – fearless in mood shifts and rooted in defiant openness.
