Remembering Semra Ertan
This event invites participants to learn more about Semra Ertan (1957–1982) – poet, activist, and one of the earliest migrant voices in the struggle against racism in Germany. Her life, political engagement, and literary work will be presented in the form of an information stand and a screening. Visitors are encouraged to engage with, reflect upon, and discuss the ongoing relevance of her fight against discrimination and social injustice.
Semra Ertan was a Turkish-German poet and political activist. As one of the earliest migrant literary voices in Germany, her writings addressed racism, exclusion, and social inequality. Her work combines poetic intensity with strong political clarity. Her poetry collection Mein Name ist Ausländer (My Name is Foreigner) was published posthumously in 2020. Her life and tragic death have made her a significant figure in ongoing anti-racist discourse and collective memory.
