Yes – Us Too! Gay Men in Hamburg from the 1970s to the 1990s

About the project
The AIDS crisis in the mid-1980s came as a shock: the disease was initially considered incurable and was usually fatal. Gay men were among the groups most at risk. Despite discrimination from politicians and the press, however, those affected found support both within and outside the community. The love that Nat King Cole sang about in 1948 has also become less dangerous for many gay men – at least here. As a gay man who came out in the early 1970s, Chris Lambertsen photographed at Pride parades and many AIDS solidarity events in Hamburg, but his work also includes the visual record of personal moments, as well as portraits and nude photographs of gay men.
