Sonic Bodies: Block Barley
During the Opening Days, the Sonic Bodies event series invites key figures from Hamburg’s cultural and music scene to the festival centre of the 9th Triennial to explore the themes of Alliance, Infinity and Love through performance, music and discussion with the audience. The series sees itself as an open space of resonance between art, sound and urban society – as a place of encounter, listening and collective experience.
Sascha Sebastian Hohn, aka Block Barley, is a Hamburg-based musician, producer, artist and DJ. Rooted in record collecting, sound art and experimental music, his sets move between hip-hop, afrobeat and Brazilian music, dub, post-punk, obscure electronics and leftfield club sounds. Rather than following genre boundaries, he creates atmospheric, narrative selections built around mood, texture and unexpected connections. His music has appeared on labels including Content (L)abel, WE AINT MUSIC and Melting Pot Music, and he regularly DJs for ByteFM at the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Beyond music, he is co-founder of bluesleeve, a Hamburg-based vintage fashion store focused on Japanese avant-garde designers.
