"Cocktail Prolongé: F.C. Gundlach Special" – Guided Tour with Stevan Evans and Sabine Schnakenberg

In this conversation, Sabine Schnakenberg and Steven Evans will explore the respective curatorial challenges of displaying collections in contrast to presenting a living archive, alongside the tensions and contradictions such practices can reveal. They will reflect on ideas such as the return of the repressed and the celebration of intersectional queer narratives.

The discussion will consider a number of key questions: how, in the present day, do we inhabit or draw meaning from collections of this kind? And what does an exhibition like Cocktail Prolongé: F.C. Gundlach Special enable us to do now that has historically been denied us? Drawing on examples of countercultural ways of life, the speakers will also examine how popular culture –  such as fashion, music, and photography – has helped shape and foreground these conversations.

Steven Evans is a curator, writer, artist, and the executive director and chief curator of the award-winning arts organisation FotoFest, based in Houston, Texas. He guides the artistic and strategic direction of FotoFest and its internationally celebrated photography biennial.
