Kunstverein in Hamburg
Nina Porter
This exhibition will mark the first institutional solo exhibition of the UK artist Nina Porter. The presentation, to be held in the downstairs gallery of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, will comprise new works commissioned by the Kunstverein on occasion of the 9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg 2026.
In Porter’s recent work there is a sense that the dynamic between camera, subject, and image have been inverted, or altogether reconstituted. Emphasis is diffused throughout their network, existing in the spaces between sculptures we might call “cameras”, and images we might recognise as “photographic”. One medium leans upon the other to find its form. The material evidence of the practice behaves more like feedback, or diagram, or as elements of an exchange through which a channel to access a far-flung future may emerge, or signal to a space that otherwise remains outside the visual.
The exhibition is curated by Sarah Messerschmidt.
